This weekend, I had the opportunity to take part in 2 Assaults. I figured, since the expansion pack is new and information is dispersed, I would create a mini-guide.
What is Assault?
Simply put, Assault is an instanced “dungeon.â€
Upon zoning into an Assault instance, you are given an objective; sometimes clear and sometimes semi-ambiguous. You hare also given a time restraint (usually 30 minutes) to accomplish said objective.
If you win the instance, you get points and points can be traded in for some kick-ass gear.
How do I access Assault?
Firstly, you need to have ToAU installed.
After completing ToAU mission 2 , you will have access to Assault.
Okay, I have completed ToAU mission 2 – now what?
Get some friends together!
Assault missions are for players level 50 or higher and for parties with 3-6 members.
To start an Assault mission all members must visit the Commissions Agency and obtain an I.D. Tag from the main counter. You can obtain up to 3 I.D. Tags per day*.
After receiving the Tag, determine what mission you want to take part in. There are 5 NPC counters in the Commissions Agency and each NPC is responsible for a staging point. He/She can provide information on the mission as well as a list of items you can obtain by training points.
It is worth noting that if you decide to become the party leader for an Assault mission, it will cost you some Imperial Standing Points (50 I believe).
*Read this - important info regarding I.D. Tags
Staging What?
Staging point*.
These are the actual areas that contain the Assault missions. Some can be difficult to get to and others are easy.
Staging Point Info
Getting to these staging points is hard!
Yeah, I know – it can be.
However, once you visit a staging point you can warp to and from it; similar to the teleport crags. The teleport devices are found directly across from the Commissions Agency in the Chamber of Passage. NOTE: If performing an Assault mission you will not be required to spend Imperial Standing Points to use the facility.
WTH is a firefly (fireflies)
These are temporary items that are given to you. You need to have these to enter an instance. For those of you that have done a dynamis, equate this to the perpetual hourglass.
In other words, do not drop the item for your duration in the instance – else you will be ported out and people will likely hate/want to kill you.
Is there more?
There will be.
I plan on taking some screenshots and making mini-guide a bit better. This was just meant to be a high-level overview.
I will also create a post regarding the two missions I have attempted.
Also – I would *love* to do this as an LS; it’s quick, it’s fun and you get EXP and Items. If you are interested /tell me in game and we can try to get a static or something started.
Another ToAU guide

EXP?
I can't find online anywhere how much EXP you get from this, if any. So... how much do you get from it?
Could be enough of a motivation to get certain members interested in it :-)

Bah...
EXP depends on level cap and you should assume that you obtain EXP as you do in an EXP PT - "this ain't no Promy run foo!"
On a serious note, you get SOME EXP, not a whole lot. The objective is to clear the instance. If one's goal is to solely obtain EXP, well this is likely a bad event. :-)
You all may know...
This may already be well known, but just for completeness purposes:
Assault points are ZONE SPEICIFC. Meaning, points obtained from completing an Assault in a certain zone are not aggregated or transferred to other zones.
In order to obtain items from an NPC, you must obtain X points by completing Assaults in his/her respective zone.
Assault book?
Cyc, it would be nice if we could add this information into a book/guide here on the website (including all the links you have). We could either add it to Around Vana'diel in 80 Days as a unique entry, or even start a book specifically about ToAU.
Whaddya think?

Sure
Yep. Sounds like a plan. Give me a few days (likely later this weekend) to rework the post and update it as needed.
Work sucks...
I like it
I dont like the idea of static assult, but rather just post a time for people to meet, given at least 2 days in advance. I have done 1 assult, (The one with all the worms) and it was fairly easy since those I was with new exactly where to go.
It was quick, and fun. And I got 600 AP ^^
Decision
Cyclonus has come to a decision on Assault (as I understand it); maybe he will post that decision here.
Interested
As I have told Cyclonus online - yes, I am interested in participating in Assaults if we can find a decent time (meaning a time where folks will actually show up in Aht Urhgan).
Level?
Ok, I've been dog busy lately and can't keep up with anything...
What is the level requirements for this? As I understand it, this is more of an end-game activity. If so, perhaps it could be the thing we use to jumpstart ClanAM-EndGame?

Also..
I was asked by several people to consider and propose a static for Assault.
And I am totally for it, but I have a few concerns which I think should be discussed here prior to creating a new thread/topic.
If, Sam, you do plan to make this into a ClanAM-Endgame event, I do not want to step on toes or create a conflict (give the number of I.D. Tags one can obtain over a given time).
With that said, I personally think the logistics of Assault as an Endgame activity will be difficult. Given that instances cap at 6 members, I think we will have a greater number of participants than slots available (even if we create multiple parties; a la Dynamis and the infamous 2-3 person party) and possible drama will ensue.
If you are still considering this as an Endgame activity, I will hold on a post for a static. If not, well, we already have 4-5 people interested...
Need to discuss level cap issues. Apologies for the long post.
I gave my input
Personally I think Assault should be experimented with, initially, as an overlay for your Saturday 3PM Eastern time slot; in other words put the CoP ENM runs on a one or two month 'hold' while outcome is evaluated.
As host you run it like Garrison - you log on at 2:30pm Eastern and possible participants send you a /tell with levels and jobs; online player who sends you a /tell at 2:35pm has a higher priority than online person who sends a /tell at 2:40pm. At 3PM party heads out from Jeuno to Mhaura to Aht Urhgan.
I consider this Assault proposal to be another Clan Event. I consider Limbus to be the eventual (if it happens) Clan End Game. Players seem to be really enjoying Limbus and that is why I want to reach WHM level 75.
Here ya go
Assault missions are for players level 50 or higher and for parties with 3-6 members.
