Well, this sort of stuff is technically what I do for a living (system security ;-) and let me tell you whoever told you AdAware was junk doesn't know jack. AdAware is one great piece of software ;-)

Also, just because you have norton doesn't mean it's up-to-date ;-)

Bah! Windows-based machines are so hard to keep safe! I'm so glad that's not my job anymore! :-)

Hmmmm, still sounds like your connection is somehow messed up. My bet is that you are infected with viri and/or spyware.

Get a current (up-to-date) anti-viral scanner, and download/install AdAware to get rid of any spyware and you should be good to go.
